                            Mary Quant Exhibition

                                       13.01.20

A second group of Butterflies visited the Mary Quant exhibition at the V&A in January, after a successful visit last year. This exhibition is the first international retrospective on the iconic fashion designer Dame Mary Quant. The exhibition explores the years between 1955 and 1975, when Mary Quant revolutionised the high street, harnessing the youthful spirit of the 1960's and new mass production techniques to create a new look for women.

                        Jo Downs  Frit Workshop

                                       14.01.20

On a Tuesday afternoon in January the Butterflies went to Jo Downs, Ripley to do a Frit Workshop ( crushed glass) They learnt how to use crushed and broken glass to create decorations, pictures and or patterns on plain sheets of glass which could then be ' fired ' to make shallow dishes, vases, tea-lights or pictures to name just a few items. It was great fun and we learnt such a lot. Such a good way to spend a wet afternoon. It was so enjoyable that another workshop has been arranged for March, we are even considering doing a third in October for Christmas, decorations or gifts.

                        BBWI Charity Quiz Evening

                                       8.02.20

The Butterflies were flying high on a windy Saturday evening when they turned up for their annual quiz night. They were intrigued after receiving their first class airline boarding tickets not knowing that the quiz was to be all about an around the world airline flight. Each team was named after roles within airports.

Teams scores remained close all evening. At the end there was only 71/2 points between the winning team ( Security Team ) and the last team ( Custom Staff ) Two rounds proved the hardest for the teams, namely  ' Relaxing on Board ' ( Reading -books and magazines ) and 'Arrival Destinations ' ( Around the World - geography connected )

All the teams did well on the charity round (10 horse related questions ) which was included in recognition that the quiz was raising funds, a staggering £528, for Horsley & Bookham Riding for the Disabled. From the volume of noise in the hall everyone had a grand evening travelling the world - they also learnt a lot at the same time.

A big thank you to the following business who supported the evening with raffle prizes: Fine Fettle, Ken Davey Butchers, Carolinas Coffee Shop, Laytons Greengrocers, Vineries Garden Centre & Reigate Manor Hotel.

                                Walking Netball

                                       14.02.20

A coach and umpire secured , bibs and balls brought, emails sent and messages on FB posted we waited anxiously on Friday at Leatherhead Leisure Centre to see how many members would come along to the first coaching session of Walking Netball.  We were happy & overwhelmed when  31 members arrived to support this new WI activity.

We decided to invite other local WI members along and Ashtead did not disappoint with  14 members  arriving & 17 members form Butterflies both eager to learn a new skill.

Elaine ( our coach ) explained what the first session entailed and we started with a warm up , ball skills and then 3 minute games allowing everyone to have a go , followed by a cooling down. ... to experience going forward what to expect.

For some it was a challenge walking having played at school! Some members had never played so it was good to all start from the beginning with Walking Netball rules.

I hope those that came along whether or not you loved it or had reservations will give it another go .

Going forward we would like you to feel it is for all aspects of fitness ... either as a 'Wiggle & a Giggle ' or if you would like to be a little more competitive and are " In it to win it '( and would like to play league matches)

Either way everyone is welcome and we hope to make this full of fun, friendship & fitness.
